L'Ormarins Olive Oil Harvest Report 2013

The 2013 extra virgin olive oil was harvested from our 4 small groves on the farm comprising of a total of approximately 2000 trees. The Italian oil varieties Frantoio, Leccino and Coratina yielded very well this year, while the Mission table olives are still finding their feet but nevertheless produced enough for our culinary needs.

Winter at the Anthonij Rupert Vineyards

As we get closer to winter, the vines are shedding their leaves and are slowly entering a dormant period.  With the arrival of the early winter rains, the cover crops also start growing quicker.

Most of the winter labour centres on pruning vines for the coming year.  This can begin as early as June.

The Harvest Report 2013

2012’s cold, wet winter – in which nearly a third more rain than usual was measured – created first-class conditions for the 2013 season. Sufficient cold units meant the vines ended dormancy well, and started the mild, cool Spring season with good, even bud break. Growth was balanced and shoot development was even throughout. However, strong wind in November and December resulted in some damage to the vines and impacted on crop loads in some areas.
