Woodford Truffles SA is proud to announce the discovery of the first Black Perigord Truffle on the farm “Altima”. After six years of nurturing and caring by Coenie and Hanene, the managers at “Altima”, owned by Johan Rupert at Elandskloof near “Villiersdorp”, "Clyde" our Truffler sniffed out the 200gr truffle in the brulé of one of the inoculated oak trees.
Marda and Trevor, Woodford Truffles SA's dog trainers have been checking this orchard for the last two years. Our Italian truffle guru Prof. Alessandra Zambonelli predicted the imminent appearance of truffles after a thorough on site root inspection of the orchard trees in January this year. Now in July 2015 “success”. The first truffle in the Western Cape was found by “Clyde” much to everybody’s excitement.
The orchard will be monitored every week until the end of the winter harvest season by “Bonnie" and “Clyde” and the new addition “ Zippy” our sheep dog breed .
We hope to update this page with more good truffle news before the end of winter.
