This year, we are proud to announce, the Anthonij Rupert Cape of Good Hope Altima Sauvignon Blanc 2012 was awarded the prestigious Bartho Eksteen Sauvignon award.
As one of South Africa’s leading sauvignon winemakers, Bartho Eksteen has been hosting this Sauvignon Celebration for 20 years. Each year an international winemaker is invited to speak on the subject followed by a panel discussion, Q&A session and completed with a gala dinner and prize-giving.
This year, Bartho and his wife Suné, went to great lengths, sourcing wines from Greece, Slovenia, Italy and even Austria to consider. Older and more unconventional areas such as Baleia Bay from Vermaaklikheid and Newstead form Plettenberg bay were some of the local contenders. A blind tasting by more than 60 members of the industry, press and public decided our fate.
The Altima vineyard, responsible for the production of this award winning wine, is particularly cool, with snowfall occurring almost every year (870meters above sea level) and harvesting done only during March. In celebration of summer, we look forward to many more successful Sauvignon vintages and give a nod to the runners-up this year.
