A day out in the Franschhoek Wine Valley with Reuben Riffel and the Anthonij Rupert Winemakers...
Bad weather didn’t dampen spirits at this year’s Cook Franschhoek which took place over the long weekend in June, especially when it came to a feast for the senses presented by celebrity chef Reuben Riffel and the Anthonij Rupert Wyne winemakers Mark van Buuren and Dawie Botha. Together chef and winemaker teamed up to present and showcase the best of their produce from the picture perfect Franschhoek Wine Valley, where guests were treated to an unforgettable food and wine dining experience in the comfort of Reuben’s home. The winemakers took turns to present with Reuben with Mark showcasing the wines on Saturday and Dawie had his turn on Sunday.
Arriving at the original Reuben’s in Franschhoek guests were whisked away in the comfort of a shuttle bus to La Bourgogne where they were shown the olive orchards and the processes of olive oil making as well as the pickling of olives. Before concluding their olive experience they were treated to a tasting of award winning olive oil and a range of superb olives.
And then it was back to the sacred realm of Reuben’s kitchen for the highlight of their Cook Franschhoek experience. An interactive demo Reuben shared a few of his tricks of the trade before the respective wineamkers took the stage to showcase some of the superb wines from the Anthonij Rupert Wyne portfolio.
Ending off what was most certainly an informative, fun and interactive day, guests tucked into a sumptuous lunch prepared by Reuben and paired with the Anthonij Rupert Wyne wines, which included the L’Ormarins Brut, the Cape of Good Hope Sauvignon Blanc and the Anthonij Rupert Optima, a deep rich blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, and a beautiful 1984 Bukketraube which was served with the dessert.
