One often sees movie scenes filmed in San Francisco, where trams are still used as a mode of transport. The owner, Johann Rupert, was inspired by this and this led to the introduction of specially built trams to visitors. These trams resemble their genuine counterparts, but travel on road rather than tracks.
The trams are housed on L’Ormarins, at the Franschhoek Motor Museum and at the two tasting rooms, Terra del Capo and Anthonij Rupert the latter on the adjacent Anthonij Rupert Estate.
The trams travel in tandem between the two venues with each journey lasting approximately 30 minutes and operating on a hop-on hop-off basis. This enables visitors to enjoy the scenic beauty of the Groot Drakenstein Mountains and the vineyards, especially since the specially designed windows afford maximum visibility. The magic is that two splendid estates can be experienced without you having to drive yourself!
Treat yourself to a day’s visit to the Franschhoek Motor Museum, taste the excellent wines and conclude your outing with a scrumptious meal in the anti-pasto bar at the Terra del Cap Tasting Room. For more information, call 021 874 9004.
